Experiences Offered

Laverton Community Children’s Centre offers a range of exciting experiences for the children of all ages to participate in.

Music & Movement

Laverton Community Children’s centre offers a music and movement program that engages children’s sensory motor skills.

With our programmed sessions delivered by one of our bachelor qualified educators, the children, dance, sing and enjoy magical light shows.

We have observed an increase in children’s regulation during this time encouraging a more holistic learning environment.

Bush Kinder

Our Educational Leader has worked tirelessly with our kindergarten team, to implement a bush kinder program.

This program currently takes place at Laverton Creek for our 3 and 4 year old children.

Bush kinder offers a holistic approach to early childhood education, benefiting physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.

Healthy Harold

Healthy Harold Life Education visits our 3 and 4 year old kindergarten children each year to engage children and make learning about health and well-being fun and memorable. The program covers a variety of topics and uses interaction and age-appropriate methods to educate children. This program empowers children to make informed choices about their health, leading to better decision-making as they grow older. The lessons are tailored to different age groups, making the information accessible and understandable for all students.

Bees

Bees are vital pollinators that play a crucial role in maintaining the health and biodiversity of our planet. Without bees, many of the fruits, vegetables and flowers that we rely on for food and beauty would not exist. In fact, one-third of all the food we eat is dependant on bee pollination.

By supporting bees, we are not only helping to ensure a stable food supply for ourselves, but also for countless other species that rely on the plants pollinated by bees. Bees are essential for the reproduction of plants and the continuation of ecosystems around the world.

It is important for us to protect and preserve bee populations by creating pollinator-friendly habitats and raising awareness about the importance of bees in our ecosystem. By supporting bees, we are not only benefiting them, but ourselves and the planet as a whole. The children at LCCC get to participate in watching the bees, watching and participating in the honey harvest and all the exciting facts and benefits of our buzzing friends.

Turbo the Turtle

In July 2024 we adopted our new member to our family, Our 5 year old turtle, who the children named Turbo.  Turtles can offer several benefits to children, both as pets and as subjects of learning. Turbo provides an excellent opportunity for children to learn about biology, ecology, and conservation. Kids can learn about different species, their habitats, and their life cycles, fostering an interest in nature and science. Turtles are generally calm and slow-moving, which can help children develop patience and a calm demeanour. Watching and interacting with turtles can be a soothing experience. Having a turtle as a pet or learning about them in a natural setting can help children develop a deeper connection with nature. This connection can foster a sense of respect and empathy for all living creatures. While turtles are not typically interactive pets like dogs or cats, their presence can still provide emotional support. Watching a turtle’s calm movements can be comforting and relaxing. Turtles are often at risk due to habitat destruction and other environmental issues. Learning about these challenges can help children understand the importance of conservation and the role they can play in protecting the environment.

Little Sports Heroes

Little sports heroes is an outside organisation that visits our centre on a weekly basis to deliver a sports incursion program.

Incorporating the necessary aspects of the Early Years Framework, little Sports Heroes break down each sport into three-four week blocks to help retain knowledge through repetition, while always keeping activities fresh and interesting. Certain sports will be revisited throughout the year to see what information the children have retained and to gradually make sessions more complex as their confidence and ability increase. This program is delivered to children enrolled in the long day-care program and is currently visiting on a Thursday. They even spend some time with our youngest students. It is never too young to be involved.

Dental

Laverton Community Children’s Centre has Dental Squad attend the service every six months to introduce children to a dentist at a young age. Establishing good oral hygiene practices early can lead to lifelong healthy behaviours. Paediatric dentists focus on preventing dental decay which is common in children. Early detection allows for timely intervention, preventing more severe issues later on. The Dental Squad educates children and parents about proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and dietary habits. Instilling these habits early promotes lifelong dental health.

When Dental Squad visits, families sign a permission form to allow their child to participate and they can attend during childcare hours without their parent/guardian present.

Maternal Health Check ups

Laverton Community Childrens Centre has a room designated to our local maternal health service. They visit our centre once a month with appointments bookable through Hobsons Bay City Council.

Maternal health checks are a vital part of prenatal care, offering comprehensive benefits that contribute to the health and safety of both the mother and the baby. Regular check-ups not only detect and manage health issues but also provide education, support, and guidance throughout the pregnancy and beyond. They deliver educated advice on your childs development and advise care programs if required.
