Sustainability
At LCCC we have a ‘whole-of-setting’ approach that involves meaningful collaboration with children, families and community. Welcoming, respecting and drawing on the voices, priorities and strengths of all community members ensures sustainability education by educators and children to show respect for the natural environment, be active participants and bring about enquiry and social change.
Our dedicated educators make sustainable education a part of everyday practices to empower children to construct knowledge, explore values and develop an appreciation of the environment and its relationship to their worlds. This lays the foundations for an environmentally responsible adulthood. At our centre;
- We have an edible gardens for sharing and/or cooking produce
- We are active citizens for sustainability in local community projects
- We collect natural materials for play ethically, only taking a few and using respectfully
- We take care of our worm farm
- We reuse and repurposing materials for play
- We create a second-hand children’s book or clothing exchange for families
- We investigate local indigenous environmental knowledge
